Today's FamilyFun challenge idea comes from the book Disney's FamilyFun Crafts, edited by Deanna F. Cook.

Oven-baked Craft Dough

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water
Food coloring or glitter (optional)
Acrylic paints and paint brushes
Markers

To make the dough, combine the flour, salt, and water in a mixing bowl. Knead the dough until it is smooth and rubbery.
Bake figures in a 275 degree oven for 1-2 hours. Let cool before painting. Store unbaked dough in the refridgerator for a week.

This is a very basic craft dough that children can help mix together. We had some of our friends from the neighborhood help us with making the dough and creating figures. I got so busy helping the kids with their figures that I didn't get any pictures of that part.

Our kids used their sculptures to display at Robo Dude's school art and poetry festival.

Rating: This was definitely a 5 finger project. All of the kids were so excited to get their figures out of the oven and paint them. Disney's FamilyFun Crafts even explained how to make people figures, which was very helpful.

  1. Hmmm. The real question is which buddies to invite over for so much excitement?
